Jim is in the midst of a long stretch in the Great Smokeys. Mark prepared a great mailing with food for a seven day stretch, when places to buy food wouldn't be available. When I called Jim early Thurday morning and actually got him, not his voice mail, he said he was eating breakfast in Gatlinburg, TN! He said he smelled so badly that he talked a couple hiking buddies into going into Gatlinburg for a night and a bath. I said, "Well, I bet they didn't smell too good either, Jim...." to which he replied, "But I was bothering me! I couldn't stand myself." Doesn't that sound like Jim? So, he was a happy man--a bath, clean clothes, and a good meal.
Jim said he had a meaningful Passover meal with his friend, Larry, and three other people with things Mark had thoughtfully mailed to him. Sunday he hiked alone and enjoyed it, I think. Took many pictures and made some calls to family.
He thought he would beat Hot Springs Tuesday rather than Monday.

Ah, the necessity of the mid-week bath...
Comments
Re: Ah, the necessity of the mid-week bath...
Tonight I am at a great hiker hostel just up from where the AT goes under I-40. It's called Standing Bear Farm. A number of the people I have been seeing recently at one shelter or another are here for a little R&R. A shower and washing a few clothes has been great. I move on in the morning toward Hot Springs and expect to be there on Wednesday. I hope to be able to upload some new pictures then. This computer doesn't have a slot for my media.
The Smokies were fabulous despite the rain and hail of yesterday and today. Re: Re: Ah, the necessity of the mid-week bath...

It sounds like you are having a wonderful adventure. You stay in my thoughts and I'm happy to have this chance to virtually keep up with where you are. Awesome photos! I especially love the tree shots. Magnificent!!

Krisha, great to hear from you. I'm glad you like the photos. I have more of trees and flowers and lots of great people I've met along the way. I'll post them in a few days; I hope. It all depends on when I have access to a computer that will accept my photo card.
Please pass on my warm greetings to others at Beth El. Shavua Tov, Jim Re: Ah, the necessity of the mid-week bath...
Jim, glad you were there where you could be in out of the rain, etc. Concerned about you tonight, as I hear that a cold front is coming in from west of NC, and that there is to be much precipitation. Take care.
Re: Re: Ah, the necessity of the mid-week bath...
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. I damaged my boots while drying them this morning on a wood stove, so I'll need my spare pair sooner than I anticipated. I've sent you the particulars for mailing in a separate email.
The rain has stopped for now, so I'm about to head out for the next shelter. I expect to stay at Groundhog Creek Shelter tonight. A bear has been reported to be causing trouble at the two shelters after that, so special precaution will have to be taken in hanging the food bags. "Aunt Mary" showed up here again today with more "trail magic." Trackbacks
